Downsizing 101 – Great Tips

Downsizing 101: How To Do It The Right Way

Bigger is better. We’ve all heard that, right? It’s been the prevailing wisdom in America for a
long, long time. But is that notion always right? Lately, many people are rethinking the idea
entirely when it comes to the size of their home.
The average size of an single-family home in the U.S. has ballooned to more than 2,500 square
feet. That’s 2 ½ times as big as it was immediately after World War II! Home owners have long
been convinced that living in as much space as possible is always better, but the reality is more
complicated than that.
Perhaps not all that surprising, larger homes require more work and upkeep. The extra space
encourages us to fill it with things we don’t need. Not to mention the increased price of a
bigger home. This is precisely why people are looking to downsize to a small place.
Deciding to move you and your family into a home with less space should not be made lightly.
Take your time to think over every aspect of the move because it’s not simply a question of
storage space. Downsizing means changing your lifestyle entirely. Yet the benefits can be well
worth it if you do it right. With the right planning and soul-searching, losing some square
footage means you can gain more in other aspects of your life.
If you’re considering this kind of lifestyle change, read more about it in the accompanying
guide!
